The XIV Annual Conference of GAPIO, held on 16–17 March 2024 at The Centrum, Lucknow, was a grand success.

The conference was inaugurated by lamp lighting and a keynote address by Brahma Kumari, Sister Shivani, Rajyog Meditation Teacher, Spiritual Mentor, and Speaker of the TV Series “Awakening with Brahma Kumaris” on the topic “Transforming Leadership in Clinical Life”.

A session on Leadership Mantras by Dr Sudhanshu Trivedi, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, moderated by Dr. Anupam Sibal, Former President, GAPIO, Group Medical Director, Apollo Hospitals, was held before the award ceremony.

Chief Guest, Hon’ble Shri Rajnath Singh, Defense Minister of India had virtually addressed the conference in the presence of Guest of Honour, Shri Brajesh Pathak, Deputy Chief Minister, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Medical Education, Govt. of Uttar Pradesh and Dr Sudhanshu Trivedi during the award ceremony.

More than 700 participants attended the conference from across the globe.

More than 120 renowned Speakers/ Moderators/ Chairpersons from across the globe covered various topics under Cardiac Sciences, Endocrinology, Genomics, Gastroenterology/Hepatology, Infectious Disease, Nephrology, Rheumatology, Neurology, COVID, Leadership Mantra, ECMO, Physiotherapy, Nutrition & Diabetes Care.

Dr. Nandakumar Jairam, President, GAPIO shared his vision during the Executive Committee meeting.

The conference ended with a panel discussion on “Empower ‘HER’ Health: Perspective on progress & challenges – Women’s Health”, in the presence of Smt. Rita Bahuguna Joshi, MP, Lok Sabha, Prof Soniya Nityanand, Vice Chancellor, KGMU, Lucknow and Smt. Aradhana Shukla, IAS (Retd.), Former Additional Chief Secretary to Govt. of UP, Ayush Department. The session was moderated by Dr. Anupam Sibal.

Parallel sessions on ECMO, Physiotherapy, Nutrition & Diabetes Care took place at the same venue and were very well participated.

GAPIO awards were presented by Hon’ble Shri Brajesh Pathak Ji.

The GAPIO Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred on Dr. Gnanaraj Jesudian, Retired Urology surgeon. Head of Department of Urology and Director of the GILLS training centre at Shanthi Bhavan Medical Center, Biru. Founder and Director of Rural Surgery Innovations Pvt. Ltd.

Dr. Prathap C Reddy Philanthropy Award was presented to Dr. K V Ravishankar, Founder of “Children’s Sight Saver Project,” established Usha Kiran Eye Hospital (UKEH).

The following awards were given in Distinguished Clinician Category:

  • Dr I A Modi Award was presented to Dr. Sheffali Gulati, Professor and Chief of the Child Neurology Division at AIIMS, New Delhi.
  • GAPIO Surgical Excellence Award was presented to Dr. Achal Gulati, Vice Chancellor and President at Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences and Technology, Jaipur.
  • GAPIO Excellence in Diagnostics Award was presented to Dr. Kashi Nath Prasad, Microbiologist, Lucknow.
  • GAPIO Excellence in Radiology/ Radiation Therapy Award was presented to Dr. Goura Kishor Rath, Head of the National Cancer Institute and Chief of DRBRAIRCH and Professor, Department of Radiation Oncology at AIIMS, New Delhi.

The following awards were given in Young Clinician Category:

  • Dr I A Modi Award was presented to Dr. Radha Vikas Taralekar, Program Manager for Global Health/ Associate Research Scientist, at the Department of Community Medicine at Johns Hopkins University in the USA.
  • GAPIO Surgical Excellence Award was presented to Dr. Kirtikumar J Rathod, Pediatric surgeon at AIIMS, Jodhpur.
  • GAPIO Excellence in Diagnostics Award was presented to Dr. Pradeep Kumar Dabla, Professor, Department of Biochemistry, G.B. Pant Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research (GIPMER), Associated Maulana Azad Medical College, GNCTD, New Delhi.
  • GAPIO Excellence in Radiology/ Radiation Therapy Award was presented to Dr. Pooja Nandwani Patel, Senior Consultant and HOD, Radiation Oncology at Sterling Cancer Hospital, Ahmedabad, Gujarat.

The following awardees were awarded in GAPIO Commendation Award category:

  • Dr I A Modi Award was presented to Dr. Nalini Mohan Guda, Consultant, Gastroenterology, St. Luke’s Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI, USA.
  • GAPIO Surgical Excellence Award was presented to Dr. J B Sharma, Additional Professor, Department of OBGY, AIIMS – New Delhi.
  • GAPIO Excellence in Diagnostics Award was presented to Dr. Anoop Nigam, Professor of Pathology, RD Gardi Medical College, Ujjain.
  • GAPIO Excellence in Radiology/ Radiation Therapy Award was presented to Dr. Sanjay Gandhi, Research & Innovation Lead, Core Clinical Directorate, North Bristol NHS Trust, Bristol.

The conference has been accredited with 3 Credit hours by Uttar Pradesh Medical Council.
