GAPIO Members Honours list – March 2024

Prof A A Shetty, Emeritus Professor of Orthopaedics and Cell Research and Faculty of Medicine at Canterbury Christ Church University, UK has been appointed as Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Kent, UK by his Majesty King Charles the III, in recognition of his medical service to County and the Country. He has also been elected as Honorary GAPIO Distinguished Fellow.

Dr. Arun Prasad, Surgical Gastroenterology, Bariatric and Robotic Surgery, New Delhi, has published a newspaper article in Times of India, titled “Bariatric surgery more effective than drugs for diabetics, who are obese: Study”.

Dr. Ashish Aneja, Senior Medical Officer, Kurukshetra University has organised a free health check-up camp in health centre of Kurukshetra University. In this camp, free tests like Hb, ECG, Liver Scan, BMD, Spirometry, Neurotherapy were done and free medicines were distributed among the needy patients.  More than 400 patients were present.

Dr. Ashish has been invited as Guest of Honour in a function organised by Roti bank Association and honouring him by presenting the Certificate of Appreciation and Award by Hon’ble Respected Sh. Shrikant Jadhav (IPS), ADGP and Prof. Sushila Chauhan, for his social work done and contributions to Health Services and Awareness Camps organised since last 12 years in association with GAPIO for the benefit of society and needy patients in Kurukshetra and nearby villages and schools.

Dr. Keerti Singh, Lecturer, Faculty of Medical Sciences, Cave Hill campus, Barbados, University of the West Indies, on March 18th 2024 had Participated as a panellist in the 2nd Edition to the 11th Annual FMS Graduate Symposium 2024, held at the Public Health Seminar Room, Errol Waldron Clinical Skills building.

Dr Keerti Singh has reviewed abstracts for the Annual American Association of Clinical Anatomists AACA meeting 2024; June 17-21 at Weill Cornell University, New York, USA. Accepted abstracts to be published in the supplementary edition of Clinical Anatomy.

Dr. Keerti Singh has done the following public service:

  1. March 31st 2024: Installed the new board members of the Optimists Club of UWI Cave Hill college club, Barbados at the business meeting and oath taking ceremony of the club as Lieutenant Governor of zone 10, Caribbean District Optimist International. 4:00 – 4:30 pm AST.
  2. March 30th 2024: Supervised the free health screenings and contributed blood sugar strips for Glucose testing done by the Medical Students Association, a community outreach event organized at the Brighton Farmers Market, Brighton Plantation, St. George, Barbados, 6:30 am – 10 am AST.
  3. March 27th 2024: Participated and represented the Barbados Association of Medical Practitioners (BAMP) as Assistant Treasurer of BAMP at the Job Fair “Your Choice, Your Path, Your Success.” Organized by the Office of Student Services (OSS), The UWI Cave Hill Campus. Interacted with undergraduate and graduate students informing them regarding various courses offered by the Medical Faculty and the role of BAMP during practice years. 11-3pm AST.
  4. March 22nd 2024: Participated and represented the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the FMS boot of the Science & Technology (S&T) Festival, themed “Let’s Innovate: Barbados” organized by the Ministry of Industry, Innovation, Science, and Technology (FST) at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre 9 am -11 am AST.

Dr. Kandamaran has been Elected as Chair: Pediatric Online module Committee in Society of Critical Care Medicine

Dr. N Ramakrishnan, Senior Consultant, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, Chennai has primary authored an original research article titled “Improving Antimicrobial Resistance Awareness Among Medical Students in India: The Sensitization of Medical Students on Antimicrobial Resistance (SOS-AMR) Study” in “Journal of Medical Education and Curricular Development March 2024”. The Co-authors of the article are Venkatasubramanian Ramasubramanian, Yamunadevi Ramanathan, Abarna Devi Sanmarkan, Prasanna Kartik, Manisha Arthur, Ramakrishnan SR and Sarath Murali.

Dr O. P. Sharma, Sr. Consultant, Geriatric Medicine at New Delhi, has delivered a guest lecture on Adult Immunization in IPF Medicon 2024 in Association with Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (an International Conference with UK & South Asian Countries).

Dr O P Sharma has been conferred upon the Honorary Founder Fellowship of Innovative Physicians Forum.

Dr. P N Renjen, Senior Consultant Neurology from New Delhi, Past President – Delhi Neurological Association (DNA) and former Executive Committee Member of European Stroke Conference (ESC) has been nominated in European Stroke Organisation (ESO) “Neurorehabilitation committee” which will come with effect after 10th European Stroke Meeting which will be held in Basel (Switzerland) 15–17 May 2024.

Dr Saroj Pattnaik, Sr. Consultant, Critical Care Medicine, Apollo Hospitals, Bhubaneswar, has been elected as a fellow of Indian College of Critical Care Medicine (FICCM) during Criticare 2024 at Kolkata on 1st March 2024.

Dr Sudhir M. Parikh, Chairman-Center for Asthma & Allergy, Chairman & Publisher-Parikh World Wide Media, Vice President – Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (GAPIO), Padma Shri Awardee 2010, has been Honored by Vishv Umiya Foundation during an event in Times Square.

Dr Vivek Mundada, Consultant Paediatric Neurologist, Medcare Women and Children Hospital and Aster DM Hospitals, Dubai, UAE was the only physician to achieve the mark of treating 100 Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) patients with gene replacement therapy. https://shorturl.at/djqAY

Dr Vivek is the first physician to treat any SMA child with gene therapy in the UAE https://shorturl.at/cexFG,  and have been treating such cases which usually come from countries like Turkey, Iran, Russia etc. The data of experience with first 60 patients is in publication in the journal – Muscle and Nerve.
