VIII Annual GAPIO conference was successfully concluded on 5th-7th January 2018 at Hotel Westin Mumbai Garden City, Mumbai.
The conference was inaugurated by Ms. Amruta Fadnavis, Wife of Chief Minister, Maharashtra who was also the Chief Guest for the evening function along with Guest of Honour, Dr. Prathap C Reddy, Chairman Apollo Hospitals Group, Dr. Ramesh Mehta – President, GAPIO and Dr. Anupam Sibal – Vice President, GAPIO.
Five pre conference workshops were held on 5th January 2018 which were attended by more than 250 delegates:
- Leadership Development Program held at Hotel Four Points by Sheraton, Vashi, Navi Mumbai.
- GAPIO Young Doctors Forum.
- GAPIO Women’s Forum.
- Medical Education “Improving Training and Assessment”.
- GAPIO Dental Forum.
Ms. Amruta Fadnavis launched the GAPIO Women’s Forum in the presence of women leadership of GAPIO, Dr. Shailja Chaturvedi, Prof. Bhupinder Sandhu, Prof. Neena Modi and Dr. Neelam Mohan.
The scientific programme of the main conference on 6th January had included sessions on Cardio Vascular Diseases, Diabetes, Surgery, and Gastroenterology. The sessions on 7th January were Oncology and Mental Health.
Many awards were conferred at award ceremony on 6th January.
GAPIO Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred on B C Roy Awardee, Dr. Ramaredyy Karri who is an eminent physician par excellence, a multi-talented person, an engineer, a lawyer, a writer, a journalist, an educationist and an administrator. First and the only Medical Doctor in the world, to acquire two masters degrees in Computer Science and Engineering.
GAPIO Service Excellence Award was presented to Dr. P K Panda.
GAPIO Leadership Award was presented to Dr. Ashish Aneja, Dr. Loknath Shandilya and Dr. Prasad Rao Nimmagadda.
GAPIO Special Appreciation Award was presented to Dr. Ronak Shah, convener of GAPIO annual conference.
More than 300 delegates participated in the conference. We wish to thank the delegates who travelled long distances within India and overseas to help GAPIO achieve its objectives. We also wish to sincerely thank the faculty who have put in great effort in putting up an impressive scientific content. Impressive feedback has been received from delegates who have appreciated the scientific content of sessions.
Following several guest lectures had also taken place by prominent speakers from UK:
- “Leadership Mantra versus Reality” by Prof. Derek Bell, President, Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh.
- “Regulation, Professionalism & Patient Care” by Prof. Terence Stephenson, Chairman, General Medical Council.
iii. “Ensuring the right skills, attitudes and behaviors in the clinical workforce through global learning” by Prof. Ged Byrne, Director of Global engagement at Health education England.
- “Improving the child health: The RCPCH Approach” by Prof. Neena Modi, President, RCPCH.
- “Global Shortage of Medical Workforce – UK Approach” by Mr. Jonathan Brown, COO, Global Health Exchange, Health Education England.
