V Annual Conference of GAPIO was successfuly held on 10th – 11th January 2015 at Chandigarh.
More than 300 delegates from overseas and India attended the Conference. Many pragmatic decisions were taken during the Executive Committee meeting held on 10th January 2015. Dr. Sanku Rao, President – GAPIO shared his views with members of Executive Council and members of President’s Council regarding Aragonda project and summarized his plans about the other areas which are important for GAPIO like control of NCDs, Dialysis in Chronic Kidney disease, Obesity etc. Dr. Ramesh Mehta emphasised on the need to create a forum for young physicians under the banner of GAPIO. He also emphasized the role of communication through electronic media. Dr. Anupam Sibal suggested formation of certain committees i.e. GAPIO stand on National Health Policy, Training and Research and GAPIO awards. Special Invitees to the President’s Council shared their views and ideas to take forward the agenda of GAPIO.
Renowned National and International faculty covered seven clinical sessions comprising of Cardiac Sciences, Gastroenterology and Liver Transplantation, Diabetes, Paediatrics, Neurosciences, Nephrology and Kidney Transplantation and Oncology which were highly appreciated by delegates.
Press conference was addressed by Dr. Sanku Rao, President – GAPIO, Dr. Ramesh Mehta, Vice President – GAPIO and Dr. Anupam Sibal, Secretary General – GAPIO along with the leadership of IMA.
Ms. Vini Mahajan, Principal Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Punjab inaugurated the conference.
Messages received from Shri. Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India and Shri. J. P. Nadda, Hon’ble Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare wishing success to the conference were read during the evening function. Message from Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, Founder President of GAPIO was played during this function.
In order to bring awareness about Obesity and nutrition, a “GAPIO Obesity Health Walk” was organised at 7:30 AM on 11th January, 2015.
Life Time Achievement Award was conferred on two distinguished reputed personalities; Dr. Vinay Aggarwal from India and Dr. Gautam Bodiwala from UK in recognition of their significant contribution to healthcare in India and overseas.
GAPIO Service Excellence Award was conferred on eight doctors from different states in India for their contribution to community service and enhancement of membership of GAPIO.
Evening function concluded with Dinner and Entertainment Program.
One I-Pad and One Samsung Galaxy Note – 3 Neo were won by Dr. Shashi Saini and Dr. Arvind Gupta respectively as lucky prizes. Four Club Mahindra Holiday Coupons were also drawn and won by delegates who stayed till end of the conference.
